I just watched ‘Stephen Tobolowsky’s Birthday Party’ and I’m a better person for doing so
Many people don’t know who Stephen Tobolowsky is by name. However they’ve most likely seen him in a movie or TV show since his film and TV resume is very expansive. Right off the bat, he had memorable roles in ‘Memento’ as Sammy Jankis, ‘Heroes’ as Elle’s father, and of course his character in ‘Groundhog’s Day’. Tobolowsky is a working man’s movie star. He’s just a guy that stars in movies for a living as a character actor and is someone you could pass on the street without even noticing. Stephen Tobolowsky is also a fascinating storyteller. He’s had some bizarre moments in his life and in this movie he relives them with the audience through speaking to the camera. Some of these stories might seem absurd, but these are events that happened to Tobolowsky, and his stories do not disappoint. ‘Stephen Tobolowsky’s Birthday Party’ is exactly as it sounds. Stephen’s having a birthday and one of his friends is filming the occasion. Stephen talks to the camera and regales his party guests. There are even some odd guest appearances by some of Stephen’s more famous friends. If you love action, adventure, explosions, fast cars… go rent
‘My dinner with Andre’‘The Rock’. This is a film for fans of experimental cinema. It’s a movie solely focused on Stephen Tobolowsky talking to the camera and his party guests as he goes over various stories from his life and as he delivers life lessons to the audience. This movie will either hook you in the first ten minutes or completely alienate you and leave you bored. I highly recommend this film for anyone that knows of Stephen Tobolowsky by name or just recognizes his face. It’s so worth it.
